B&B Junction

B&B Junction is a farm-to-table concept located in the old original 4Rivers location in Winter Park.  4Rivers outgrew this space and B&B just may also, especially if they keep turning out the delicious grub we had on a recent visit.

First off, they are quite popular with the beef-eating crowd- the beef is from grass-fed cows, lower in calories, organic and locally produced.  However, we didn’t go for the beef.  We don’t do the beef thing.  We went because they are also known for having a very good hand-crafted veggie burger.  Yep- that’s more our thang.

Burger Menu B&B Junction

The menu has 18 versions of the burger- from beef to turkey to bison and of course also to the veggie version.  Any of the patties can be interchanged on any of the combos.  Chad opted to put the veggie burger on the #3- blackening spices, blue cheese, fried fennel, lettuce and tomato.

Veggie Burger with Fried Fennel and Blue- B&B Junction

First of all, the veggie patty itself- a mix of lentils, black-eyed peas, pumpkin and some spices I couldn’t get anyone to divulge.  I am pretty sure there was a slight taste of curry which is a mixture of cumin, cardamom, coriander seeds, turmeric, dry mustard and cayenne.  Whatever other spices they use is beyond me but what I do know this was a very tasty and hearty tasting burger.

Fried Fennel

The fried fennel on the burger was very tasty also.  The strong black licorice taste is toned down quite a bit when the fennel is fried and added just a slight kick in flavor to the blackened spices and the pungent blue cheese.  This was a truly delicious and quite-filling option for a Vegetarian.

Grilled Cheese #2 B&B Junction

I chose the Grilled Cheese #2- one of two options for a grilled cheese sandwich on the menu.  My sandwich had a mix of brie and chevre cheeses with pesto aioli, watercress and paired with a peach-rhubarb jam.  I am a fan of all things grilled cheese and this was no exception.  It was perfect.

Buttermilk Battered Onion Rings

Portobello Fries

For our sides we wanted to order the sweet potato fries but they were out, boo.  We settled for the buttermilk battered onion rings and the portobello fries.  First, we liked the onion rings- they were thin and lightly battered but they were incredibly greasy.  Too greasy.  The portobello fries fared better.  They were big, thick and served with an herbed-cucumber yogurt sauce.  I could order those as a main course with a salad and been very satisfied.  Yum.

Fried Pickles

We also ordered the fried pickles- the best fried pickles we have ever had.  The pickles were very thinly sliced, lightly battered and served with the same herbed-cucumber sauce as the portobello fries.  They were also a little greasy, not nearly as bad as the onion rings, but so perfect otherwise.

B&B Junction Moose

The “B&B” stands for burgers and beers, however, B&B Junction also serves salads, wings and shakes- though I doubt anything on the menu is typical.  I bet even the shakes have some fun twist to them.  That is on the list for our next visit.

B&B Junction Winter Park

Besides the greasy onion rings, the only other downside is the outdoor tiny seating area.  Though they have plenty of fans and water spritzers, it is still Florida and it is still unbearably hot at times.  The space is also very small so you will find yourself eating in your car if you visit during their busy times.  This is why I say they will outgrow their space soon just as 4Rivers did- there is simply nowhere for them to add an additional dining area as the parking is also a quite small.  However, these are not bad problems to have as a restaurant owner.  At least people are loving your product.  We are looking forward to our next visit.

I almost had them leave off the fennel because I wasn’t sure what to expect. The guy working the counter talked me into leaving it on. Turns out it was pretty good.

Loved the super thin fried pickles.
